Resin Canal Traits Variation in Pinus spp. with Different Susceptibility to the Pine Wood Nematode

چکیده

Different studies have emphasized the influence of resin canal traits in susceptibility pine trees to wood nematode (PWN) Bursaphelenchus xylophilus. Resin canals can facilitate PWN migration through stem and are involved accumulation volatile terpenes xylem response pathogen, inducing tracheid embolisms. In this work, we conducted a inoculation experiment under greenhouse conditions investigate anatomical constitutive among seven Pinus species with different degrees PWN: P. canariensis, halepensis, pinea taeda were grouped into ‘low-susceptible group’, pinaster, radiata, sylvestris ‘high-susceptible group’. The high-susceptible group presented higher radial growth, wider cortex, lower frequency smaller than low-susceptible group. size cortical was positively related number seedlings colonized by PWN, suggesting that facilitated migration. increased diminished mean area xylem, showed more induced Additionally, larger growths These results suggest role on spp. PWN. Nevertheless, high interspecific variability found these within each evidences importance other factors

Benzoic acid accumulation in the Pinus thunbergii callus inoculated with the pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus.

Phenylacetic acid (PA), a phytotoxic product of the bacteria accompanying the virulent nematode isolate OKD-3 was detected in the callus of Pinus thunbergii after inoculation with the nematode. The amount of PA detected was large enough to induced the formation and accumulation of benzoic acid (BA) and its conjugates in the callus. These results further support the hypotheses that PA is the pat...

Genetic Variation in Pinus Brutia Ten.: Wood Density Traits

Trees in two provenance-progeny experimental sites of Pinus brutia Ten. were sampled to study variation in wood density and its components among and within six populations and to estimate heritability of wood density and ring components. Wood increment cores (12 mm thick) were collected from 29-year-old trees at breast height. A total of 1023 wood strips were scanned with the X-ray densitometry...

Population dynamics of bacteria associated with different strains of the pine wood nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus after inoculation in maritime pine (Pinus pinaster).

For a long time it was thought that Bursaphelenchus xylophilus was the only agent of the pine wilt disease. Recently, it was discovered that there are bacteria associated with the nematodes that contribute to the pathogenesis of this disease, mainly through the release of toxins that promote the death of the pines. Among the species most commonly found, are bacteria belonging to the Bacillus, P...

Peculiar traits of wood in a leaning stem of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.)

The paper analyses biometrical and anatomical traits of wood in a leaning stem of pine trees. For study purpose, five pine trees (Pinus sylvestris L.) with a visibly leaning stem were chosen. Wood samples were taken at three different stem heights, that is, below the stem curvature, at the curvature and above the curvature. Microscopic specimens were prepared and used for the following measurem...

Deciphering the Molecular Variations of Pine Wood Nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus with Different Virulence

Bursaphelenchus xylophilus is the causative agent of pine wilt disease which has caused huge economic losses in many countries. It has been reported that two forms of pine wood nematodes existed in its native region, i.e., with strong virulence and weak virulence. However, little is known about the molecular differences between the two forms. To better understand their molecular variations, tra...
